Celebrating Key Stage 4 Creativity for WAAW

For World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, e-Bug hosted a creative challenge for Key Stage 4 students, where they could demonstrate their creativity through digital or physical artwork such as posters, cartoons, drawings and paintings that would raise awareness about responsible use of antibiotics and knowledge of resistance to antimicrobial medications.

The theme of the challenge was: What can we all do to stop antimicrobial resistance (AMR)?

Thank you to every student who submitted an entry and to the educators and parents who supported them!

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2025

Second Place

Entry Description

This poster shows that antibiotics are a powerful medication but that they need to be used correctly. This student was inspired by some World War 2 posters. During World War 2 poster were used to spread clear and urgent messages and instructions to the general public. They often used fun cartoons to get across an important message.

Judges Comments

This is a simple message with an eye catching and great design. The slogans are memorable and align with UKHSA messaging. We like that they discussed their inspiration of war time posters.

This provides a summary of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), defining the issue, outlining its causes, highlighting global facts and consequences and suggesting prevention strategies.

Judges Comments

This is direct and impactful design that clearly highlights the importance of infection prevention and control measures that should be taken for us to avoid infection and the consequent need for antibiotics.

This poster illustrates how misusing antibiotics can lead to resistance.

Third Place

Entry Description

This poster illustrates how misusing antibiotics can lead to resistance. The poster highlights how both under use (not completing the full course of antibiotics) or overuse of antibiotics may cause bacteria to become resistant. As resistance spreads, infections become harder to treat. Until new antibiotics are developed, people will remain at risk. Using the right dosage of antibiotics prevents this.

Judges Comments

This entry is visually appealing with the use of eye-catching colours and arrows to map out their explanation.

The artwork contains intentional symbols reflecting on the dangers of AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance).

Third Place

Poster Description

The artwork contains intentional symbols reflecting on the dangers of AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance). A mirror urges self-reflection on our behaviors. Mismatched names (Mr. Hol on a blouse, Mr. Son on a bottle) symbolise the risks of sharing antibiotics, which are shown spilled to represent recklessness. A matching sink and poster detail emphasises the need for hand-washing to prevent AMR. An educational poster explains the issue's occurrence, while a plant symbolizes potential growth and better health through changed habits. The bold, childlike style highlights that AMR education is vital for all ages.

Judges Comments

The drawing and shading is excellent. This is a very artistic and original poster. Judges loved the details of the different name on the medicine bottle to depict using antibiotics that are not prescribed to them.
