Clinical pharmacologist and hospital pharmacist
Hans Overdiek studied pharmacy at the University of Amsterdam. After finishing his residency program to become a registered hospital pharmacist in 1986, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in 1987 from the University of Leiden on the topic of elucidating the metabolism of spironolactone.
Since 1987 he is employed as a clinical pharmacologist and hospital pharmacist at the Medical Center Haaglanden in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Some years ago, he was responsible for the successful implementation of an iv to oral switch program on antibiotics, preventing unnecessary days of intravenous administration of antibiotics to hospitalised patients. For over 20 years he served as the secretary of the Antibiotic Committee of the aforementioned hospital. He is a board member of SWAB since 2008.

European Antibiotic Awareness Day event
We are organising a Symposium for doctors, scientists and vets on how to reduce antibiotic resistance. This Symposium will take place on 18th November 2013, European Antibiotic Awareness Day.
